What To Pack In Diaper Bag For Flight: Dos and Don'ts for Flying with an Infant

You’re finally taking your baby on their first airplane ride! Congratulations!

Now comes the hard part: packing the diaper bag.

What do you need? What can you leave behind? How much is too much? And how do you fit it all into one bag?!

Never fear, intrepid traveler.

We’re here to help with a comprehensive list of everything you’ll need (and a few things you can leave at home) to make your flight with an infant as smooth as possible.

Diaper Bag Dos and Don’ts for Flying with an Infant

Do pack:

– A change of clothes for baby, in case of spills or blowouts (trust us, it happens).

– A travel changing pad, for easy diaper changes on the go.

Diapers and wipes (obviously).

– A small toy or two to keep baby entertained during the flight.

– A favorite blanket or stuffed animal for naptime or bedtime.

– Formula or breast milk, if you’re not able to nurse during the flight.

– An empty water bottle to fill up after going through security.

– Snacks for yourself, because let’s be honest, flying is stressful enough without being hangry too.

Don’t pack:

– Too many clothes. One outfit change should be plenty.

– The entire contents of your medicine cabinet. A few essentials should suffice (think: teething gel, Tylenol, etc.)

– A ton of toys. Remember, you can always bring along a favorite book or two instead.

– More food than you need. Chances are good that there will be at least one meal served on your flight, so no need to overpack snacks.

– Your entire purse. Just bring along the essentials (wallet, ID, lip balm, etc.) and tuck them into the diaper bag.

– Full-sized containers of anything. You’ll have to decant all liquids into travel-sized containers anyway, so save yourself some space and only pack what you need.

Packing for a flight with an infant in tow doesn’t have to be a nightmare.

With a little planning and forethought, you can easily fit everything you need into one diaper bag.
