How to do Baby Led Weaning without Losing your Sanity

Assuming you want to keep your baby, and your sanity, here are a few tips on how to do Baby Led Weaning without losing your mind.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked how I successfully weaned my son.

And while there is no one “right” way to do it, I can share a few things that worked (and didn’t work) for us. Here goes…

Trial and Error

First off, every baby is different. What worked for my son might not work for your daughter. And that’s ok!

The beauty of baby-led weaning is that there is no pressure to do it a certain way.

Just relax and go with the flow. (Easier said than done, I know.)

In the early days of weaning, it’s all about trial and error.

Let your baby lead the way and figure out what she likes and doesn’t like.

It’s normal for her to reject certain foods at first. Just keep offering them and eventually she’ll come around.

Pace Yourself

Another important thing to remember is to go at your own pace. There is no rush!

Letting your baby take the lead will help ensure that the weaning process is gradual and stress-free – for both of you.

Be prepared for messes (and lots of them!)

One final tip – be prepared for messes…and lots of them!

When first starting out, expect that mealtimes will be messy affairs. It takes time (and lots of practice) for babies to get the hang of using utensils and eating solid foods.

In the meantime, just relax and enjoy the ride. Your little one will get there eventually.

And when she does, you can finally breathe a sigh of relief – knowing that you did it! Congratulations!

Weaning can be a daunting task for any parent but it doesn’t have to be.

If you go at your own pace, take things one day at a time, and be prepared for messes, you’ll be just fine.

Before you know it, both you and your baby will be enjoying mealtimes – messes included!
