As a plus size dad, I know the struggle of finding a baby carrier that actually fits well and is comfortable.
For years I tried different carriers and all of them resulted in the same thing – an aching back and a frustrated baby.
I finally found one that works well for me and wanted to share my findings with other plus size dads out there who might be struggling.
Baby Carrier for Plus Size Dad
Trying to find a good baby carrier as a plus size dad is no easy task.
Most of the carriers on the market are designed for thinner people and as a result, don’t offer the support that us plus size dads need.
I’ve tried several different carriers over the years and have finally found one that works well for me and doesn’t leave my back screaming in pain afterwards.
The first carrier I tried was the Baby Bjorn.
This was recommended to me by several friends who swore by it.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work well for me at all.
The straps were too thin and dug into my shoulders, the back panel wasn’t very supportive, and my baby always seemed angry and uncomfortable while in it.
Needless to say, we quickly abandoned this carrier.
Next, we tried the Ergobaby 360.
This was a bit better than the Baby Bjorn but still didn’t provide enough support, especially in the lumbar region.
The straps were also still quite thin and caused some discomfort after extended use.
We used this carrier for awhile but eventually decided to move on.
Finally, we found the Tula Explore Baby Carrier.
This carrier has thicker straps that don’t dig into my shoulders, a more supportive back panel, and padded lumbar support.
My baby also seems much happier in this carrier.
It’s been a game changer for us and has made it possible for us to enjoy hikes and walks together without having to worry about pain afterwards.
Conclusion
If you’re a plus size dad struggling to find a comfortable baby carrier, don’t give up hope!
There are options out there that will work well for you. I’ve tried several different carriers over the years and the Tula Explore has been the best one by far.
It’s comfortable, supportive, and my baby always seems happy when she’s in it. Give it a try – you won’t be disappointed!
